NCC-1974 U.S.S. Stargazer

Forgive the non-spacey backgrounds. My space box is still in storage.

Here we have the USS Stargazer. Picard's first command and an interesting bridge between the refit Enterprise and the few rare four-nacelle designs out there.

To me the most striking element of this design is not the four nacelles, rather then number of shuttlebays. When it comes to something like an evacuation or a delivery to a distant colony, I could imagine no vessel that fits the bill better.

More pictures after the jump!

First Post NX-59650 Prometheus

I'm Trekked Off!

No, seriously, I'm a little pissed off about star trek. Maybe it's a little late in tha game to throw around my two cents, but recently I spoke with an old friend about a recent loss. The person in question was Leonard Nimoy. The friend I spoke to never watched star trek. He seemed genuinely saddened. I know what you're thinking, the nerds have won., haven't we? Our icons are having an effect on the masses. Well, no. I was kinda pissed. I somehow thought Nimoy's death belonged to the fans. I felt like I deserved more of the share of the grief than him.

Well I was wrong.

I wasn't the only one who missed the passing of Spock. In part, he taught me that the world has changed. I was only really angry with myself for not seeing it. Star Trek is a part of popular culture and its changed so much for everyone. The franchise has always meant a lot to me. In a way its affected everyone. I should have seen it. The comic movies, the proliferation of video games and adaptions of books into movies. But we've won.

The nerds did it!

We're not the only ones that miss you, Leonard. Let your freak flag fly. I was trekked off. That got me motivated. Now its time to share the wealth. I used to keep my collection to myself. It was for me and no one else was really that interested. Well, let's find out. Here's a taste of what's in store.

Yes! here it is. The well awaited NX-59650 U.S.S. Prometheus. One of the saving graces of my least favorite Star Trek show. The Prometheus represented a leap ahead in the approach to defending the federation and here she is in all of her glory. Remember, if anything looks bad with the ship, blame the me not the people who designed the model.

A nice clean hull. Very little in the way of flash.

For starters, here is a 1/1400 Prometheus. While I've bought every iteration, this one by Starcraft Models is by far and away the best out there. Unlike the Furuta and eaglemoss editions, even the heroclix or the smaller scale models, this one does a trick that none of them can.

Yup. Multi-vector assault mode.

You know, for a kit thins complex, it is really just three different pieces of resin. They hold together fine on their own, but i can't understand why this is omitted from every other version. Yeah, it gets me trekked off, but, still nothing calms nerd rage like a proper apology.

And that's what this kit is. A welcome apology from a third party company who didn't need to do something this nice for me. If only Paramount or whoever owns star trek could produce replicas with this level of passion and detail.
.
Even the interiors are painstakingly sculpted. What a work. There are not many saucer separation models, let alone one as sleek as this. Starcraft, You've outdone yourself with this.

Overall, my critique on the ship is a simple one and easily fixed. And that is the problem with the dinky little nacelles for the saucer. Those things are tiny. I know its not supposed to be about size (insert joke here) ((wow, insert joke is a euphemism.)) anyway, the tiny nacelle begs for an upgrade, which will come soon. When it comes to problems, if you can't fix them yourself, don't complain about them. In all, I think the design is striking, it looks unbelievably fast. Even the aspects of separable warp cores and ejection hatches. This ship feels more thought out than Voyager herself, which in a later post can be dissected in all of her ill-glory.

I don't rank things because it would always be a sliding scale to the next coolest ship to come out which could be unfair to kits released before technology or ingenuity stepped in to make something as awesome as this kit. I will say its a high watermark for excellence in resin.

I'd say take my money, Starcraft, but you already have almost all of it.

See you next post!
